Thestartupcaffe – PR, Social Media & Podcast Platform for Startups
In a world driven by digital conversations and isolated scrolling, one Indian startup is pushing for something refreshingly different, authentic offline connections. In our latest podcast episode on Startup Caffe, we sat down with Sarthak Gupta, the founder of Routs, a hyperlocal networking app designed to bring like-minded people together in the real world.
Sarthak’s journey is not just a story of building an app called Routs; it’s a response to a cultural shift where meaningful connections are missing, and digital fatigue is all too real.
During the conversation, Sarthak revealed how Routs was born out of a simple question: “Why is it so difficult to meet new people in your city who share the same passions?”
From that question came the vision to create a platform that redefines networking—not behind screens but through genuine, offline interactions. Unlike traditional social networks that thrive on followers and filters, Routs is rooted in shared experiences, spontaneous meetups, and local discovery.
Routs functions like a digital bridge to real-world moments. Users choose their interests, be it running, trekking, reading, music, tech, or entrepreneurship—and the app connects them with nearby individuals or groups who share those passions.
Whether it’s a book discussion at a café or an early morning cycling route, the app enables users to host or join meetups in real time. This hyperlocal discovery mechanism allows users to build communities without feeling like they’re starting from scratch.
Routs is not just about networking; it’s about reviving city culture and creating micro-communities within it.
Sarthak candidly spoke about the startup grind from building a Minimum Viable Product (MVP) to understanding the psychology behind social behaviors. The early stages of Routs involved extensive user testing, validating that the desire for offline engagement still exists, especially among Gen Z and urban millennials.
He also emphasized the importance of authenticity over algorithms. Routs was never built to keep users glued to screens. Instead, it encourages them to log off and show up. The app’s interface is deliberately minimal, focusing only on what’s needed to find and attend local meetups.
As more people confront the loneliness epidemic and digital burnout, platforms like Routs are reshaping how we think about community and connection. The idea that networking must be professional or transactional is being replaced by a deeper desire for shared experiences, safe spaces, and intentional human interaction.
Routs fill that gap by making city life more approachable and more personal. It turns neighborhoods into networks.
Sarthak hinted at future features for Routs, including better event discovery, in-app group chats, and partnerships with local venues. With a growing user base and an active community across cities like Bengaluru, Delhi, and Pune, Routs is emerging as a movement as much as a product.
At Startup Caffe, we believe this is just the beginning. Sarthak Gupta’s vision is a bold reminder that tech can be used to amplify, not replace, real human connections.
Stay tuned as we continue bringing you stories of founders who are reshaping the startup ecosystem with purpose, passion, and innovation.
