CHOSEN Raises $5 Million to Advance Science-Backed Skincare Solutions for Indian Consumers

Indian Skincare Brand Secures Major Backing for R&D Expansion

Indian skincare startup CHOSEN has raised $5 million in a Series A funding round led by Fireside Ventures, marking a significant milestone in the brand’s mission to redefine science-led skincare for Indian consumers.

The funding round also saw participation from BOLD, the venture investment arm of L’Oréal, along with Alkemi Growth Capital. Angel investor Avnish Anand and several leading dermatologists, including Dr Chandan Asokan, Dr KC Nischal, Dr Punit Saraogi, Dr Nishita Ranka, and Dr Mikki Singh, also participated in the round.

Building Skincare for Indian Skin and Climate

Founded by Dr Renita Rajan, CHOSEN positions itself as India’s first exposome-based skincare brand. The startup develops science-backed skincare solutions specifically designed for melanin-rich Indian skin while considering environmental and lifestyle factors that influence skin health.

Its approach focuses on four key aging concerns ,  pigmentation, skin texture, contour, and hair aging. The company combines dermatology research, clinical validation, and nutraceutical innovation to create products tailored for Indian consumers rather than adapting global beauty trends to local markets.

CHOSEN follows a clinic-to-consumer model, where dermatologists actively contribute to product development and validation. Its portfolio includes both topical skincare products and nutraceutical solutions designed to support long-term skin wellness.

Strengthening Research and Clinical Innovation

The newly raised capital will primarily be used to strengthen CHOSEN’s research and development capabilities, expand its clinically validated product pipeline, and scale its Centre of Excellence focused on advanced skincare innovation.

The company also plans to invest in high-impact talent across functions while deepening collaborations with dermatologists to build stronger evidence-based skincare solutions.

According to founder Dr Renita Rajan, the brand aims to bridge the gap between therapeutic dermatology and personal care by creating products grounded in Indian skin science, environmental conditions, and lifestyle realities.

Investor Confidence in India’s Dermocosmetics Opportunity

Investors believe CHOSEN is uniquely positioned in India’s rapidly growing dermocosmetics and science-led skincare market. Its combination of clinical rigor, doctor-led trust, and capital-efficient growth has helped the brand build strong consumer loyalty and repeat purchase rates.

Industry experts also see growing demand for evidence-based skincare products that specifically address the needs of skin of colour, an area historically underserved by mainstream beauty brands.

With strong dermatologist backing, a differentiated product strategy, and increasing consumer awareness around skincare science, CHOSEN is emerging as one of India’s promising next-generation skincare brands focused on long-term innovation rather than trend-driven beauty products.
