For Sukhmani Lamba, the journey into technology began at a young age while growing up across Nigeria and Bahrain. Exposure to early computing tools like Microsoft Word and Paint sparked not just curiosity, but a deeper realization—technology had the power to break barriers and create opportunities. This belief became the foundation of her career, ultimately leading her to one of the world’s leading tech companies, Microsoft.
After completing her engineering degree, Lamba began her career at Deloitte, working on digital transformation projects. However, she soon realized that consulting limited her ability to directly shape products. Seeking a more hands-on role, she moved to the United States to pursue a master’s degree at Duke University, specialising in product management.
Her journey into product building began at Pendo, followed by a role at Wayfair. These experiences helped her understand the intricacies of building user-focused products from the ground up.
Lamba’s ambition to work in communication technology led her to Microsoft Teams during the COVID-19 pandemic—a period that transformed how the world works and communicates. Platforms like Teams, Zoom, and Slack became essential tools, connecting millions globally.
At Microsoft Teams, Lamba now serves as a Senior Product Manager on the AI Agents Platform. Her work focuses on developing advanced capabilities around agent memory, intelligence, and context—key elements in building smarter, more responsive AI systems.
With multiple patents in conversational AI, Lamba is part of a new wave of innovators shaping the future of workplace technology. Her work involves designing AI agents that can understand user behavior, retain context, and provide meaningful assistance in real time.
These intelligent systems are expected to revolutionize how teams collaborate, automate workflows, and manage information. Instead of simply responding to commands, future AI tools will anticipate needs, adapt to user preferences, and act as proactive digital assistants.
According to Lamba, AI is set to fundamentally change the way we work. From automating repetitive tasks to enabling smarter decision-making, AI will allow professionals to focus on more creative and strategic responsibilities.
The integration of AI into everyday tools like Microsoft Teams will also make collaboration more seamless. Meetings, communication, and project management will become more efficient as AI handles routine processes behind the scenes.
Sukhmani Lamba’s journey reflects the evolving role of technology in shaping careers and industries. From early exposure to computers to leading innovation in AI at a global scale, her story highlights the power of curiosity, adaptability, and vision.
As AI continues to evolve, leaders like Lamba are ensuring that its impact is not just technological, but deeply human—enhancing productivity while empowering individuals across the globe.
