Bill Gates in Andhra Pradesh: A Blend of Technology, Natural Farming and Innovation

On February 16, 2026, Bill Gates, co-founder of Microsoft and chairman of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, made a significant visit to Amaravati, Andhra Pradesh. Received warmly by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, his trip was a showcase of how technology, agriculture, healthcare and governance can work together to improve lives

A Strategic Partnership for Development

The Gates Foundation has a long history of supporting large-scale development initiatives. In Andhra Pradesh, this collaboration goes beyond conventional philanthropy  it is now focused on technology-driven public services, modern agricultural practices, and sustainable healthcare reforms. The visit underscored the deepening partnership between the state government and the Foundation.

At the state secretariat in Amaravati, Gates met top officials including Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan and IT Minister Nara Lokesh alongside CM Naidu. They reviewed ongoing projects and discussed ways to scale the use of AI, data systems, and smart governance tools to serve citizens better.

Exploring AI in Governance and Public Services

One key stop was the Real-Time Governance State Centre (RTGS) where Gates observed how Andhra Pradesh uses data-driven tools to monitor development indicators and citizen services. These systems help speed up decision-making and ensure that public resources are used efficiently. The officials demonstrated how digital platforms are transforming everything from public health monitoring to administrative transparency.

The state also presented its “Swarna Andhra 2047” vision, a long-term roadmap to promote sustainable development through tech-centered governance, healthcare innovation, and enhanced agricultural productivity.

Natural Farming Meets Modern Tech at Undavalli

The highlight of Gates’ visit was a field visit to a farm in Undavalli village near Vijayawada. Here, the delegation reviewed a striking combination of natural farming practices and cutting-edge AI technologies. Local farmers showcased how drones and AI-powered advisory systems are being used to make agriculture more productive and sustainable.

Chief Minister Naidu highlighted the state’s efforts to deliver AI-generated farming advisories tailored to soil, crop type and market conditions, empowering farmers with real-time insights. This represents a shift from traditional farming to a more intelligent, data-informed agricultural ecosystem — a model that could be replicated across India.

Scaling Impact: Health and Beyond

During his visit, Gates also reviewed the Sanjeevani project, a digital health initiative supported by the foundation in Chittoor district. This project uses digital health records and affordable diagnostic services to improve healthcare access in rural areas, another example of how technology and social development intersect.

A Vision for the Future

The visit by Bill Gates to Andhra Pradesh beautifully highlighted how innovation need not abandon tradition. By combining natural farming practices with AI and smart governance, the state is building solutions that are inclusive, sustainable and future-ready. As both government and global partners deepen their collaboration, Andhra Pradesh could emerge as a model for technology-assisted development across India and beyond.
