Thestartupcaffe – PR, Social Media & Podcast Platform for Startups
In a world where startups often chase speed and hype, UltraProlink’s journey stands out for its steady, grounded growth. In a candid conversation on The Startup Caffe Podcast, Pankaj Mirchandani opens up about building a consumer tech accessories brand over 12 years, driven not by shortcuts, but by persistence, clarity, and deep market understanding.
Pankaj began his career with Philips India, where he gained hands-on experience in sales, distribution, and product development. This foundation became crucial when he later started his own distribution business, working with global brands like Sony and Gillette. Over time, he built a strong network, one that gave him the confidence to eventually launch his own brand.
UltraProlink started as a design-focused brand, outsourcing manufacturing while concentrating on product innovation. The initial phase was challenging. Despite having industry connections, building trust for a new brand took time. It took nearly two years of persistence to break into offline retail, including a key milestone of onboarding with Croma.
A major reason behind UltraProlink’s success is its sharp focus. Instead of spreading itself thin, the brand concentrated on two core segments, power & connectivity products and content creator tools. Attempts to enter the audio category failed, reinforcing an important lesson: each category has a unique consumer mindset. This clarity helped build stronger brand recall and repeat customers.
Today, UltraProlink operates across offline retail and online marketplaces like Amazon and Flipkart, with a balanced 50/50 contribution. While offline retail acts as a trust-building engine, online platforms provide reach and scalability. Emerging quick commerce platforms are being explored mainly for product discovery.
The consumer tech accessories market in India is still largely unorganized. Pankaj highlights key challenges such as limited government recognition, dependency on Chinese manufacturing, and lack of deep innovation within India. However, stricter compliance norms are now filtering out smaller, non-serious players, paving the way for stronger brands.

Conclusion
UltraProlink’s journey is a testament to consistent effort, strategic focus, and understanding consumer needs. In a fast-changing market, the brand’s grounded approach offers a strong example of sustainable growth.
