From Players to Backers: LightFury Games’ $11M Bet on Building India’s First Global AAA Cricket Title

A New Era for Indian Gaming

India has long been one of the world’s largest gaming markets, yet it has struggled to produce globally competitive AAA titles. LightFury Games is aiming to change that narrative. The startup has raised $11 million in a pre-Series A funding round, bringing together top investors and an unexpected but powerful group of backers, India’s leading cricketers.

Star Power Meets Startup Vision

The funding round saw participation from renowned investors like Blume Ventures, V3 Ventures, MIXI, and Times Internet. Adding to this, cricket icons including MS Dhoni, Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, Shreyas Iyer, Ravindra Jadeja, Tilak Varma, and Sai Sudharsan have also invested, bringing both capital and credibility to the venture.

Building a AAA Cricket Experience

Founded in 2024 by Karan Shroff, Anurag Banerjee, and Tina Balachandran, the company is focused on creating high-quality AAA gaming experiences. The team brings deep industry expertise, having collectively worked on over 40 AAA titles.

Their flagship project, eCricket, is a mobile AAA game set for release in 2026. The game aims to deliver a realistic and immersive cricket experience, combining high-end graphics, authentic gameplay mechanics, and competitive depth.

Backed by Authenticity

One of the standout aspects of eCricket is its focus on authenticity. The involvement of professional cricketers is not just financial—they are actively contributing insights to ensure the game captures the nuances of the sport. From gameplay mechanics to player behavior, this collaboration aims to bridge the gap between real cricket and virtual gaming.

LightFury has also secured a global player roster license featuring over 600 professional cricketers, including stars like Chris Gayle, Joe Root, Ben Stokes, and Kane Williamson. This makes it one of the most comprehensive cricket rosters in gaming history.

Scaling Beyond Launch

The newly raised funds will primarily be used to complete the development of eCricket and build robust live operations capabilities. This includes post-launch infrastructure, continuous content updates, and scalable systems designed to keep players engaged over time.

The company has already invested heavily in development tools, analytics systems, and infrastructure over the past two years—laying the groundwork for long-term success.

A Bigger Vision for India

LightFury’s ambition goes beyond launching a single game. It aims to prove that India can create premium gaming intellectual property for a global audience. In an industry dominated by international studios, this represents a bold step toward positioning India as a serious contender in AAA game development.

The Road Ahead

While the opportunity is massive, the challenge lies in meeting global standards of quality and consistency. If successful, LightFury Games could redefine India’s role in the global gaming ecosystem.
