NuSynth Technologies, an R&D-driven chemical process innovation startup, has raised ₹36.5 crore (approximately $4 million) in a seed funding round co-led by Avaana Capital and Shastra VC. The funding will support the company’s research and development, proprietary chemical process development, AI-enabled capabilities and expansion of its technical team.

The Bengaluru-based company aims to transform how complex chemical processes are designed and scaled, addressing long-standing challenges in India’s chemical manufacturing industry.

Addressing Challenges in Chemical Manufacturing

India’s chemical manufacturing sector has grown significantly, but the production of several critical molecules still depends on complex, multi-step synthesis routes. These processes can increase material and energy costs while creating dependence on imported intermediates and hazardous reagents.

Commercial scale-up also remains a challenge for many chemical innovations. NuSynth aims to address these issues by rethinking chemical synthesis from the ground up rather than relying on incremental improvements to existing manufacturing methods.

Reengineering Chemistry Through Innovation

NuSynth follows a first-principles approach to chemical process development. The company evaluates starting materials, reaction pathways and process economics to identify more efficient ways to manufacture complex molecules.

Its approach focuses on improving yields, reducing production costs and cycle times, and enhancing process safety, sustainability and scalability. By redesigning the underlying chemistry, the startup aims to develop proprietary processes that can deliver better economic and operational outcomes for manufacturers.

The company plans to initially focus on high-value sectors, including pharmaceuticals and electronic chemicals, before expanding its process innovation capabilities into other chemistry-led industries.

Building an AI-Enabled Research Platform

A key component of NuSynth’s strategy is the integration of artificial intelligence into chemical research and development. Experimental data generated through its work will feed into an AI engine, creating a proprietary knowledge base that can support future experiments and process development.

This data-driven approach is intended to accelerate molecule selection, optimise experimentation and simplify commercial scale-up. By combining scientific research with AI-enabled insights, NuSynth aims to shorten traditional R&D timelines and make chemical process innovation more efficient.

Experienced Leadership and Investor Confidence

NuSynth’s founding team combines scientific expertise, pharmaceutical industry knowledge and commercial execution experience. Co-founder and CEO Poorvank Purohit previously served as managing director and CEO of Solara Active Pharma Sciences. Co-founder Dr Ramesha A. R. brings research experience from the US National Institutes of Health and a PhD from the Indian Institute of Science.

The leadership team also includes Abhishek Deo and Dipak Bajaj, who bring operating and commercial experience across several companies.

Avaana Capital and Shastra VC see potential in NuSynth’s combination of scientific expertise, proprietary data and AI-driven capabilities. The fresh capital is expected to help the startup strengthen its technology platform and develop processes for customers in India and global markets.

With its focus on chemistry-led innovation, NuSynth is positioning itself to contribute to more cost-effective, resource-efficient and sustainable chemical manufacturing.
