From Finance to Pet Care: The Inspiring Journey of Manish Paul

Early Foundations in Finance

Manish Paul began his professional journey in the world of finance, building a strong foundation with over 15 years of experience in equities, trading, and portfolio management. Starting right after his graduation from Delhi University, he worked with brokerage firms and quickly developed a deep interest in stock markets. However, an early financial setback, losing nearly 50% of his investments during a market crash, became a turning point. Instead of giving up, he upskilled himself through an MBA and CFA, refining his understanding of markets and risk.

Lessons from Failed Ventures

Before launching his current venture, Manish explored entrepreneurship through multiple startups. His first was a healthy food café in Gurgaon, which ran successfully for three years but lacked personal fulfillment. His second attempt, a fitness app, gained recognition among top startup ideas in India but couldn’t launch due to delays and dependency on freelancers. These experiences taught him critical lessons: the importance of team building, proper financial planning, and launching quickly rather than waiting for perfection.

A Personal Loss That Sparked Purpose

The real turning point came in 2018 when Manish lost his pet dog unexpectedly due to a lack of timely medical awareness. This deeply emotional incident exposed a significant gap in pet care knowledge among Indian pet parents. Determined to prevent others from facing similar situations, he began building a community focused on spreading awareness about pet health and care through content, blogs, and videos.

Building ‘Moe Puppy’: From Community to Brand

What started as a community initiative soon evolved into a business idea. In 2022, Manish and his team launched pet care services, initially offering grooming, veterinary, and training services at home. However, after analyzing customer needs and data, they identified a major gap in quality pet grooming products in India, especially for pets with skin issues. This insight led to the launch of “Moe Puppy” in 2023, a homegrown brand focused on high-quality, internationally compliant pet care products.

Scaling Challenges and Growth

Like most startups, Moe Puppy faced challenges in inventory management, team building, and scaling operations. Despite these hurdles, the company witnessed rapid growth, from ₹20 lakh in its first year to ₹2 crore in the second. With a lean team and a strong focus on content and customer trust, the brand continues to expand its reach primarily through online platforms like Amazon.

Vision for the Future

Manish believes India’s pet care industry is on the brink of massive growth, driven by changing consumer behavior and increasing awareness. His vision is to build a globally recognized Indian brand that prioritizes quality, research, and innovation. His core advice to aspiring entrepreneurs is simple yet powerful: launch fast, build an MVP, and learn directly from customer feedback.
