Meet Helium Smart Air: The ₹16,990 Startup Making ACs Smaller, Smarter and Solar-Ready

India’s air-conditioning market is getting a new challenger as Jaipur-based Helium Smart Air looks to rethink how cooling should work for modern homes and smaller spaces. Founded in 2025 by IIT Kanpur alumni Ashish Sharma and Aman Munka, the startup is building compact air conditioners designed around affordability, smart technology and energy flexibility.

$2 Million Funding to Scale Its Cooling Innovation

Helium Smart Air raised $2 million in seed funding from India Quotient in April 2026. The startup plans to use the capital for product development, research and expanding its distribution network.

Unlike traditional AC brands that largely operate through extensive dealer networks, Helium follows a direct-to-consumer approach, allowing it to sell its products directly to customers.

A Compact AC Designed for Smaller Spaces

The startup’s first product, Helium Air, is designed for rooms of up to 100 sq ft and is priced at approximately ₹16,990.

The company believes conventional air conditioners are often oversized for bedrooms, office cabins and small commercial spaces. Its compact approach focuses on delivering cooling without requiring consumers to invest in a larger and potentially more expensive system.

Helium Air also offers app-based controls, gas-leak detection and device-health monitoring. These features are intended to make the appliance easier to operate while helping identify potential issues before they lead to unnecessary service or repair visits.

Solar-Ready Cooling Could Be a Key Differentiator

One of Helium Smart Air’s most notable claims is its ability to operate with a 1 kW solar panel. The feature could make the product particularly interesting for consumers looking to reduce their dependence on conventional electricity.

With rising electricity costs and increasing interest in renewable energy, solar-compatible appliances could become an important part of India’s future residential cooling market.

Backed by IIT Kanpur Expertise

Helium’s founders bring an IIT Kanpur background to the venture, while the startup has also established a research connection with the institute.

In November 2025, Helium signed a strategic advisor agreement with IIT Kanpur, with Professor Umesh Madanan advising the company on cooling technology and research and development.

The startup says its AC units are manufactured across multiple locations in India and has partnered with Urban Company for installation and servicing.

Can Helium Challenge Traditional AC Brands?

India’s AC market has long been dominated by established appliance companies, but new-age D2C brands are increasingly competing through differentiated designs, smart features and sharper pricing.

Helium Smart Air is taking a focused approach by targeting smaller spaces and combining compact design with app-based technology and solar compatibility. Its ability to scale production, build consumer trust and deliver reliable after-sales service will determine whether this young startup can turn its unconventional AC concept into a larger consumer brand.
