Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called on India’s youth to think bigger, innovate boldly and contribute to the country’s growth, highlighting the government’s efforts to strengthen entrepreneurship, technology and innovation. In his address on August 15, Modi pointed to the rapid expansion of India’s startup ecosystem and the growing opportunities available to young entrepreneurs.

According to the Prime Minister, India now has around 2.5 lakh recognised startups, reflecting the significant expansion of entrepreneurship across the country. Startups are no longer concentrated only in major metropolitan cities, with innovation and new businesses increasingly emerging from smaller cities and towns.

Modi emphasised that young Indians should not limit their ambitions and encouraged them to pursue ideas capable of creating large-scale economic and social impact.

A key announcement highlighted in the address was the ₹1 lakh crore Innovation Fund, aimed at supporting innovation and strengthening India’s ability to develop new technologies and businesses.

Digital India and Affordable Data Expand Opportunities

Modi also highlighted several developments that have helped create a stronger environment for young Indians, including Digital India, affordable internet data and Skill India.

The expansion of digital infrastructure has made it easier for entrepreneurs, students and professionals to access information, build digital businesses and reach customers across the country. At the same time, skill-development initiatives are intended to prepare young people for an increasingly technology-driven economy.

Together, these developments have helped lower some of the traditional barriers to entrepreneurship and opened opportunities beyond India’s largest urban centres.
